In 2007, H.R. Gray was retained as the construction manager for the Marysville (Ohio) Upground Reservoir Project. With a total budget of $24,000,000, the project originally consisted of four contracts providing a complete system to capture water from Mill Creek, pump it to the new reservoir, and ultimately deliver the water to the Marysville Water Plant.
Contracts 1 and 2 provided the piping work necessary to transport water from Mill Creek to the new reservoir and then from the new reservoir to the existing water plant. The 117-acre reservoir constructed along Raymond Road (built under Contract 3) will have a storage capacity of 1.3 billion gallons requiring the excavation of 1.7 million cubic yards of on-site soil to construct the 11,000 linear feet of 48-foot embankments.
Coordination between all four contracts provided the key to success for this project. As all contracts interfaced with each other at various stages during the construction, it was imperative that all projects remained on schedule or other portions of the work would have been impacted.
Contracts 1, 2, and 3 were completed ahead of schedule, while Contract 4, construction of the dam and pump station, was completed in February 2009.
