City of Columbus Bliss Run Storm Relief Sewer Phase II

After the successful completion of Bliss Run Phase I, H.R. Gray continued the management of the Bliss Run Relief Storm Sewer Project with a smooth transition into Phase II.

Phase II of the project included the excavation and installation of 4,170 lineal feet of 12-foot by 8-foot precast concrete box culvert and thousands of feet of ancillary lines and utilities. The box culvert ran within the road right-of-way of residential and commercial areas. Because of the very narrow work limits within the right-of-way and the frequency of physical contact with private and commercial property on the alignment, coordination of the construction activities with residents, property owners, schools, and businesses was critical.

Using the lessons learned on Phase I with regard to communication and careful scheduling of project activities, H.R. Gray was able to lessen the impact of the construction on the local residents, schools, and businesses. Specifically, communication systems were developed and maintained to inform residents of scheduled construction in their area including planned utility outages and changes in traffic patterns. This point of contact was provided 24-hours a day, 7 days a week to immediately address project issues.

Bliss Run Phase II had a contractual completion date of October 2005, however, the project achieved substantial completion in March, 2005. The project was completed within budget and ahead of schedule.
