City of Akron Pigeon Creek Sewer & Pump Station

H.R. Gray provided overall project coordination for the City of Akron's Pigeon Creek Sewer and Pump Station Project including preliminary scheduling and document review, construction management, construction inspection, and critical path method (CPM) scheduling.

The Pigeon Creek Sewer and Pump Station Project consisted of four separate construction projects completed over several years. These projects – the Kibler Road Water Line, the Pigeon Creek Trunk Sewer, the Pigeon Creek Pump Station and the Pigeon Creek Forced Main – were undertaken to facilitate a Joint Economic Development District agreement between the City of Akron and Copley Township, Ohio. When completed, the project included the installation of more than 16,600 linear feet of various size sewer pipes ranging from 8-inch to 30-inch and more than 8,200 linear feet of ductile iron pipe. The projects also included more than 1,100 linear feet of micro tunneling and six river, street and railroad crossings utilizing horizontal drilling.

The 30-inch vitrified clay pipe (VCP) was to be installed using micro tunneling at a depth of 30 feet through a very dense clay strata. The contractor utilized a direction boring machine and high pressure water to accomplish this installation.

The project was on a tight schedule and H.R. Gray managed the project using CPM scheduling to complete the work on time.
