Austin Bergstrom International Airport East Runway System Perimeter Roadway Construction

The project consisted of upgrading the East Runway System Perimeter Road along the southern portion of Runway 17L/35R, located within Austin Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA). The project improved approximately 6,000 feet of existing gravel roadway.

The majority of the roadway was constructed of hot mix asphaltic concrete (HMAC), with a small section (approximately 860 L.F.) of Portland cement concrete paving used to bridge over a portion of an existing capped landfill. The project also included HMAC access roads to several wind cones with the East Runway System. Specific items of work included excavation, grading and drainage improvements, erosion control, slope stabilization, fencing relocation, pavement markings, and signage.

H.R. Gray provided Resident Project Representative services, which included construction inspections to assure conformance to the drawings and specifications. Construction Management services were utilized to support construction administration-related work processes including: submittals, RFIs, change management, QC laboratory coordination, photographic documentation, and project closeout.

The project was completed on budget and ahead of schedule.
