Ohio University Gordy Hall

Ohio University and the State of Ohio, Department of Administrative Services commissioned H.R. Gray to provide constructability review, scheduling and on-site management services for the Gordy Hall project.

The contract documents were developed by Levin Porter Associates, Inc. to renovate the existing classroom/faculty office building and construct a contiguous addition, which doubled the size of the original building. The original building was a three-story, brick and masonry structure built in 1912 that previously housed the Modern Languages and Philosophy Departments. The addition was a four-story, brick and steel building. H.R. Gray provided a comprehensive constructability review including review and evaluation of the drawings and specifications for internal clarity, consistency and coordination. The team reviewed and analyzed the construction constraints imposed by utility conflicts, permitting, environmental and safety requirements, sequence of construction and construction materials, utility relocation, traffic disruptions and public access.

H.R. Gray developed a detailed construction schedule and schedule narrative. The schedule and constructability report were presented to representatives for the Design Architect, Ohio University and office of the State Architect at a joint meeting. H.R. Gray contributed to several follow-up discussions clarifying various issues which were raised in the report and provided on-site management of the day-to-day construction, including monthly schedule updates and analyses of project progress.
