The Ohio State University Jennings Hall Renovation

H.R. Gray was contracted by The Ohio State University – Facilities Design and Construction, to provide scheduling and on-site schedule reviews for the Jennings Hall Renovation. The historic building on the OSU campus was renamed Jennings Hall in 2002 to honor former Ohio State University President Edward H. Jennings.

The contract documents were developed by NBBJ of Columbus, Ohio to renovate the existing classroom/laboratory building, and construct an adjoining auditorium. The original 100 year old, 115,000-square-foot building is a four-story, brick and masonry structure. The auditorium addition is an open one-story, with connecting basement, structural steel and brick 6,000-square-foot building constructed on the west side of the existing building. H. R. Gray, working with Albert M. Higley Company, the lead contractor on the project, and other trade contractors, (plumbing, HVAC and electrical), to develop a detailed construction schedule.

With a total cost of $35-million, H.R. Gray contributed to several of the follow-up scheduling sessions that resulted in re-sequencing the phases of the project, along with developing recovery schedules, when necessary, in order to meet the owner’s project milestone dates. In addition to the follow-up sessions, H.R. Gray provided on-site bi-monthly schedule updates and analysis of project progress.

Renovation was completed in May 2007, in time for fall quarter classes as scheduled.
