Wooster Community Hospital Operating Room Renovation

Located in Wooster, Ohio, the Wooster Community Hospital is a 150-bed full-service acute care hospital that offers a complete range of inpatient and outpatient services including CT Scan, MRI, PET/CT Scan, Wound Healing Center, Progressive Care Unit, Home Health Care Services, Ambulatory Care Center and a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. With more than 600 full-time employees including more than 100 physicians on the active medical staff covering most medical specialties, the Wooster Community Hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Having served Wooster and its surrounding service area for more than fifty years, the hospital recently engaged in a multi-million dollar expansion project to meet the needs of the growing and changing population.

H.R. Gray was retained by Wooster Community Hospital to provide a full range of preconstruction and construction management services for the operating room area, which involved a $2 million renovation and expansion of the surgical suite area, PACU, ACU, and Central Sterile Processing within the existing hospital. During the project, all existing areas had to remain in operation and fully functional. A new operating room, sub-sterile, offices for the staff, and a new equipment storage room were included in the addition portion of the project.

All work in this area was completed while the hospital was in full operation. This required comprehensive coordination between the contractors and hospital staff. Infection control and minimizing disruptions were the key challenges for the H.R. Gray management team. In order to accomplish this goal all work was performed at night in order to minimize the disruption to hospital operations and to ensure that the project would be completed on schedule.

The operating room renovation work began in March, 2004 and was completed in November, 2004. The project was completed on schedule and under budget.
