Wooster Community Hospital Renovation & Expansion Projects

Located in Wooster, Ohio, the Wooster Community Hospital is a 150-bed full-service acute care hospital that offers a complete range of inpatient and outpatient services including CT Scan, MRI, PET/CT Scan, Wound Healing Center, Progressive Care Unit, Home Health Care Services, Ambulatory Care Center and Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. With more than 600 full-time employees including more than 100 physicians on the active medical staff covering most medical specialties, the Wooster Community Hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Having served Wooster and its surrounding service area for more than fifty years, the hospital recently engaged in a multi-million dollar expansion project to meet the needs of the growing and changing population.

H.R. Gray was retained by Wooster Community Hospital to provide a full range of preconstruction and construction management services for this renovation and expansion project. In total, this contract included several projects, totaling more than $25 million, such as renovations to the hospital's surgical suites, PACU and Ambulatory Care, renovations to completely reconfigure the Emergency Department, as well as an addition to house the relocated OB and Surgical Stepdown facilities.

All work was performed while the hospital was in full operation, which required extensive field coordination between the contractors and hospital operations. Infection control and minimizing disruptions were key challenges that were met by the systems implemented by the H.R. Gray's management team.

The OR/PACU/AC renovation work started in March, 2004 and was completed on schedule and under budget. The Emergency Department renovation started in December, 2004 and was completed on schedule in June, 2006.
