H.R. Gray was retained in September, 2004 to assist the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) with program management of accessibility concerns for the State of Texas.
H.R. Gray was awarded the $8 million contract, which calls for H.R. Gray to develop a plan, deliver ramp design and bid documents, provide assistance during construction, and train TxDOT staff and contractors. The plan is focused on improvement projects in all 25 TxDOT districts.
To date, approximately 56,000 corner locations out of over 128,000 were identified under the Statewide Curb Ramp Program based on TxDOT’s in-house database. These corners were assessed a priority and compiled into a program planning report that was submitted to FHWA. Upon acceptance, H.R. Gray began addressing the needs for upgrading over 56,000 existing intersection locations within the state’s right-of-way by evaluating various alternative designs at each corner with consideration given to elimination of all obstacles while incorporating ADA compliance for travel pathways and traffic signalization. To achieve this goal, H.R. Gray is providing services that include; site specific assessment, effective design review, cost estimating, ADA/TAS compliancy training, construction management services, and quality assurance.
