He was born on January 9, 1939 in Everett, Massachusetts and was the ninth of ten children. Growing up in Boston, Harry became an avid supporter of the Boston Red Sox, a passion which he enjoyed throughout his life. He graduated from Everett High School in 1957, where he played varsity football and basketball. He served in the Massachusetts Army Reserves. Harry studied Civil Engineering at Northeastern University. During his education, he worked as a draftsman, surveyor, and later, a construction supervisor. Harry worked for 10 years as a construction manager for HNTB in the Eastern United States. He later became the director of construction management for Camp, Dresser & McKee in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the Louisville, Kentucky offices. He married Suzanne, his wife of 29 years, in Milwaukee. He and his wife moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1980. At that time he opened his first office in The LeVeque Tower, specializing in construction management. Since that time, his engineering firm has expanded to offices in Akron, Ohio and Austin, Texas; the company has had other project offices in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and North Carolina. H.R. Gray’s major projects in Ohio include: construction management of the Upper Scioto West Tunnel Project – Columbus’ first major tunnel project; “Project 88” at Columbus’ Southerly Wastewater Treatment Plant; planning and construction management of Canal Park, Akron’s downtown baseball stadium; constructability reviews of the Schottenstein Center Project; scheduling for the reconstruction and expansion of Ohio Stadium; and construction management of the High Street/Broadway Street Reconstruction. Always a family man, Harry lived with his family in Columbus for 28 years where he became an enthusiastic Buckeye fan. He was proud of his family’s New England roots and leaves many of his relatives and friends who reside on the East coast. Harry Gray is preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Jim Gray and his siblings, Ruth Scott, Carol Lea and Nelson Gray. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, and their children, Adriane and William of Columbus, Ohio; Lori (Marc) LaBrecque and their children, Eric and Matthew of Las Vegas, Nevada; Jeffrey of New Hampshire, and Lisa of Maine. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Jim Gray of California (formally of Columbus); Richard Gray, Helen Hammond and Phyllis McConchie of Massachusetts; Jean Goodwin of Connecticut; Evelyn Jones of New Jersey, and his special niece, C. Nancy Scott of Massachusetts. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurse at the James Cancer Hospital and Home Reach Hospice for their outstanding care.
