Scott Swiderski, senior construction manager at H.R. Gray has been asked to speak at the 2010 ADA Multiple Perspectives conference. H.R. GRAY AND 360WATER, INC. TO PRESENT AT TEXAS WATER 2010 CONFERENCE
Robert Reyes, Director of Business Development for H.R. Gray will be joining Laura Tegethoff, President of 360water, Inc. at the Texas Water 2010 Conference in presenting “Adding Training Programs To Your Capital Project Can Save You Money”. This presentation will discuss how municipalities utilize online training courses to assist their employees maintain and operate their tools and equipment, reducing equipment downtime and maintenance costs. H.R. GRAY SENIOR CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR RECEIVES CPII CERTIFICATION
Senior construction inspector Howard Montgomery recently received his Public Infrastructure Inspector certification from the American Public Works Association. Howard is now the fourth person and the only non-public agency employee in the State of Ohio to receive this certification.

The Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII) certification program is designed for individuals that inspect the construction of public infrastructure (e.g., roadways, highways, utilities, bridges, dams), facilities (e.g., pump stations, treatment plants, water storage facilities) and other types of construction work and materials to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.

Howard's willingness to pursue this education and certification fits well with the mission statement and values at H.R. Gray. Congratulations Howard!

H.R. Gray Continues to Grow
H.R. Gray has recently hired Robert Reyes as the Director of Business Development. In his new position, Reyes leads the business development efforts for the Central Texas market and consults with individual public owners to meet their specific owners' representation needs. With more than seven years of experience as a professional service business development manager, Reyes looks forward to translating his engineering and construction experience in Central Texas to benefit public sector clients' construction management needs.

Steven E. Shelton has joined the H.R. Gray team as a senior project manager. Shelton will provide construction management services, cost estimating and scheduling on construction projects and has more than 23 years of experience in the construction industry performing construction management and engineering services in the private and public sector.

H.R. Gray has also hired Zachary Kimble as a construction inspector. In his new position, Mr. Kimble will provide construction inspection services on projects in Ohio. Kimble is a recent graduate from the University of Akron with a Bachelor of Science degree in construction engineering technology.

Project Highlighted At 2010 North American Tunneling Conference
H.R. Gray has been asked to present a white paper highlighting the City of Columbus Big Walnut Sanitary Trunk Sewer Extension project at the North American Tunneling Conference (NAT) on June 19-23 in Portland, Oregon. Michael Hall, project engineer for H.R. Gray will be joining John Newsome from the City of Columbus in speaking at this conference. Read more about this complex tunneling project.

Marysville Inflatable Dam Project in Spotlight

H.R. Gray's expertise and construction management experience was recently highlighted by Columbus Business First for the Marysville, Ohio 80-foot-wide inflatable dam on Mill Creek in Union County. According to the article, the dam is anchored to a concrete base and uses rubber bladders that are inflated by air to impound and pool water. Those bladders are deflated and become seemingly invisible when the water needs to be reduced. Read the full article here.

Are Your Curb Ramps Really ADA Compliant?

An article written by Bob Sexton, senior construction manager for H.R. Gray was recently published in the June issue of Modern Contractor Solutions magazine. The piece - titled "Are Your Curb Ramps Really ADA Compliant?" – outlined how specifiers can alleviate some of the most common problems that occur when installing curb ramps.

On July 31, H.R. Gray hosted our valued customers, family and friends at our 30th anniversary celebration at our offices in Columbus. A good time was had by all and we wish to thank everyone for celebrating with us and helping us reach this milestone. We look forward to another successful 30 years!

Cascade Locks Project Receives Award

H.R. Gray was presented an award from The Akron District Society of Professional Engineers at the Engineer's Week Banquet on February 19 for the Cascade Locks Bikeway. This project consists of a 4,000 foot extension of the Ohio & Erie Towpath Trail from Martin Luther King Freeway to Lock 2 in downtown Akron. The trail includes a 10 foot wide, ADA-accessible path with two foot shoulders on each side for a total width of 14 feet.

H.R. Gray was retained by the City of Akron to provide construction management services for the project.

H.R. Gray awarded value engineering contract for Waller Creek Tunnel

The Austin, Texas City Council approved an agreement with H.R. Gray to provide value engineering services for the Waller Creek Tunnel project. A team led by H.R. Gray will conduct a value engineering review of the Waller Creek Tunnel project's design and construction plans.

The Waller Creek Tunnel project is a proposed 22-feet storm water bypass tunnel beginning in Waterloo Park and discharging at Lady Bird Lake near Waller Beach and the Four Seasons Hotel. The project is expected to reduce the size of the 100-year floodplain of the lower Waller Creek Watershed by roughly 28 acres and allow denser development in the Waller Creek District area of downtown.

The tunnel project will consist of several construction projects with some small projects starting construction in 2009, and is expected to be substantially complete in 2014.

H. R. Gray Selected as outside overseer for City of Detroit

A federal judge recently appointed H.R. Gray to oversee Detroit's troubled program for installing curb ramps that comply with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act. U.S. District Judge Gerald Rosen appointed Robert Scott of H. R. Gray to help get the project back on track in a suit brought by two advocacy groups.

The LEED Professional Accreditation program, managed by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), distinguishes building professionals with the knowledge and skills to successfully steward the LEED certification process. LEED Accredited Professionals (LEED APs) have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles and the LEED Rating System. More than 43,000 people have earned the credential since the Professional Accreditation program was launched in 2001.
