Part 1 begins at the City’s Southerly Wastewater Treatment Plant and ends at Alum Creek Drive and State Route 317. Part 2 generally lies beneath the alignment of Alum Creek Drive.
The interceptor will be designed for soft ground tunnel construction. Geotechnical data indicates that subsurface geology is conductive to tunnel construction. The tunnel will be designed for excavation by tunnel boring machines (TBMs).

The TBM will enter the ground through a shaft located at the beginning of each tunnel contract and exit through a shaft at the terminus of the contract.
Groundwater is of critical importance due to the fact that many residents along the planned construction corridor rely on individual wells for their source of water supply. Based on specialized hydro geological studies, wells which may be impacted by the construction will be identified. Prior to the initiation of construction, owners of wells which may be impacted will have new wells and associated equipment installed by the City. During construction, monitoring wells will be installed to determine any unanticipated impacts to the regional groundwater.
