Thomas B. Merritt is President of H.R. Gray, A Haskell Company. Since joining the H.R. Gray team in March 2003, Mr. Merritt has served in many capacities overseeing administration, marketing and business development. He lead change management activities and propelled growth through the identification and acquisition of key government contracts, developing and deploying the internal processes and systems critical to supporting expansion and the management of public construction contracts ranging from $3M to $500M. He oversaw the proposal design and presentation process, coordinated the internal resources to prepare winning bids, and coached the project management team on strategic communications. Mr. Merritt managed the development of marketing materials to unify messaging, build brand equity, and position H.R. Gray as a leader in the construction management and program management field.
A graduate of The Ohio State University with a master’s degree in public administration, Mr. Merritt has more than 20 years of public sector as well as 15 years of private sector experience in the professional engineering and construction management field. He has held various roles within local and state government, culminating in responsibility for planning, organizing, and directing the City of Columbus Ohio’s multi-functional Public Services Department with a staff more than 1,100 employees. Here he established a culture of accountability and results for delivering successful customer service-focused management and cost effective infrastructure planning and construction.
Kristen E. Braden, Director of Construction Operations, has over 20 years of experience in the construction industry. She holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Vanderbilt University, a master’s of engineering degree from the University of Texas and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Cincinnati. A registered Professional Engineer (P.E.), Ms. Braden has extensive experience with both public and private sector projects including water/wastewater, roadways, parks, airports and offshore oil and gas production facilities. Since joining H.R. Gray, Ms. Braden has held project management roles on several water and wastewater construction projects. Her responsibilities have included project planning and conceptual development; budget development and estimating; project set-up and start-up; and on-site contract administration. In addition, Ms. Braden has been responsible for the coordination between contractors and resolution of design and layout issues, negotiating contract modifications and resolving construction related questions and conflicts on-site. As Director of Construction Operations, Ms. Braden will be responsible for staff and diversity development, resource management and strategic planning for H.R. Gray.
